Introduction to A2 media

Desert Island Challenge.

We were set a challenge to represent the AS year in a cartoon drawing , everyone's were different and we had a time limit of 30 minutes to show our strengths , weaknesses and the journey we took to the exam . We then described our drawings to each other , as you can see below it began with a shark , representing the struggle and hard work bearing upon the As students . Me hiding behind the bush is a representation of worry I had leading to the exam , above me are the coconut trees representing the knowledge we were given during the year , Shading me from the sunburn ( a bad grade) . There I am 'high fiving' another person which represented media as a whole and my teacher Phil as I revised and became more confident before the exam . The big A is for the grade I got in media as I obtained my results in the summer , informing me of 100% in the exam .

Three Ideas for music videos

1. My first idea was for a recent song by a hip hop/rap artist called Travi$ Scott , the song is called 'Drugs you should try it ' . The song is quite mellow and calm for a hip hop track , it depicts good memories Travi$ Scott had with a girl and falls between reality and a dream where he and her share good memories . Its hard to distinguish whether the 'girl' in the song is actually a metaphor for drugs that Travi$ has encountered as an upcoming artist.
Some of the lyrics are shown below :

I tried it, it feels right
This feels nice

I've been down and lost for days
Glad I found you on the way

When the day gets better, the night gets brighter
I always feel this way
Through the hills
I hear you callin', miles and miles away

We up all night, from dawn to dust it's always poppin'
I fell in love, fell outta love, we both had options

I played the drums, she rolled the joints
I rocked the club, we both throw up
We was the band you never heard before
You got that tat above your crack
And on your cat you be right back
Your momma never know
We was rollin', rollin', rollin', rollin' stones
When I'm all alone I wish you had a clone
I take that puff, you take that puff
You know we never can overdose

The idea was to have more of a story based video , following the themes in the lyrics , where travi$ follows and spends the day with the girl of his dreams for her to then disappear before nightfall . Inspiration for the idea came from another music video of his called upper echelon , I wanted to use similar themes from the upper echelon video like the setting of a dark / cold / foggy forest , and the encounters of weird and mysterious people / objects . The photos below are from the upper echelon video :

2.My second idea is for an older song called 'Big Tree' by stand high patrol.

Lip Sync Exercise

On Monday we began the lip sync exercise . We were given set of lyrics to learn (shown below). We split into groups of three , with appointed jobs on set. Each person in the set had to have a turn at singing the lyrics and being filmed by the other two members.

There were three sets and three groups , a set in front of a green screen , one in front of a track ( which one member of the group would have to push whilst the other filmed on it ) and a basic sofa in front of the camera . We shot at each set three times (all different shots) and then moved onto the next set and changed the person singing .

We used a 'playback' which was on an ipad instead of the original board , this allowed us to match up the song when editing . It simply had to be held in front of the camera for 5 seconds before the song began . We all had a turn using the playback , the camera and the lip syncing .
By actually singing instead of trying to lip sync , it made the clips look much more realistic.

After everyone had been filmed three times , we went into the editing suite to combine all of our clips that were shot by every group. Beginning by putting all clips onto final cut pro and cutting them all to match a point on the playback , so that all the clips started at the same point at the beginning of the song . When adding a new clip we would have to delete the sound as we would only have the song over the top . We simply then cut different bits out of all the clips at points at which the lyrics changed or the beat changed , leaving us with a final product of every person in the set singing part of the lyric.

Homepage

Recently I have been practicing creating a webpage for an artist , I have created my own producer 'PALACE MUSIC' , who produces beats for rappers and occasionally raps himself . I wanted the homepage to follow a futuristic and slightly artistic theme , to connect with his very futuristic sounds . I aim for it to represent PALACE MUSIC as being very influenced by style / fashion and art .

I analysed the webpages of similar artists working in the same genre , and found that most of them followed the same themes . They were fairly basic , little colour and decoration , options for music videos / tours /photography etc.. and links to their own music .
Most of the artists webpage had connections with photography , art and fashion . Which I am going to really emphasise on my webpage , but differently I want it look more professional and decorative compared to others.

Above is my webpage , for my artist . As you can see I have used images to make the page look more professional along with the option of going onto further pages , such as photography , dates or videos. The images I have used , allow the viewers to identify PALACE MUSIC with sculpture and busts , An artistic theme which has allowed me to give
